EAST HARLEM

East Harlem, New York.  Years of neglect had resulted in a wreck of an apartment in a prewar gem of a building.  Our initial challenge was to reveal the apartment’s inherent elegance.  We kept the original floor plan, replaced the windows, refinished the floors, restored the trim, and brought the apartment to life through the use of color.

The kitchen features relatively inexpensive Thermofoil Cabinets with Art Deco Bakelite handles and an Italian marble countertop. The long abandoned fireplace was reframed in slate and quarter-sawn oak. We renovated the turn of the century bathroom using Ming Green hexagonal tiles on the floor, Celadon subway tiles on the walls, and a Kohler Tea for Two tub.
