COASTAL COTTAGE
What started as a 60s summer cottage on one of Rhode Island’s coastal salt ponds has been transformed into an energy-efficient, contemporary house. A year round home, the cottage faces solar south and takes advantage of natural heating and cooling. The solar bonnet allows the sun to warm the house during the winter, when the sun is lower in the sky, and keeps the interior shaded during the summer months. We used traditional materials in a non-traditional rhythm on the exterior. The open-plan interior includes Tansu Chest inspired stairs and hidden storage.
