Coastal Cottage Exterior
The cables between the railing posts are stainless steel, as are the tensioners that hold the end of the cable. Building codes require a railing height of 36" and a maximum opening of 4" between balusters. Using stainless steel cables allowed us to meet code and keep the views of the salt pond. Ezra Baer designed and built the railings.
We used Kolbe K-Force windows that came trimed with 3 1/2" flat
casing. The windows are made for coastal applications and designed to
withstand hurricanes. The double hung windows used in the first floor are cottage windows, meaning that the lower sash is larger than the upper sash. This allows an unobstructed view when seated inside.
