"High Energy Efficiency...a Whole New Level of Style" Coastal Connection 2011
What started as an old cottage on one of Rhode Island's coastal salt ponds has been transformed into an energy-efficient, upbeat, contemporary house. A year round home, the cottage faces solar south and takes advantage of natural heating and cooling. The solar bonnet allows the sun to warm the house during the winter, when the sun is lower in the sky, and keeps the interior shaded during the summer months. We used traditional materials in a non-traditional rhythm on the exterior and designed an open interior with built-in cabinetry. The drawers beneath the stairs are inspired by Isho Tansu chests.
